Job Title: SEM Technician

Education: College degree in Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)

Experience: 1-2 years related experience

Scope
Calera needs to hire a scanning electron microscopist to undertake challenging sample preparation, secondary electron (SE)/backscattering electron (BSE) imaging, as well as energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). This technician would work closely with the scientists who generated the materials to best deliver representative images/data for their projects. The scope of responsibility would be to prepare and analyze samples, collect and report the relevant images and data, and also help in general analytical lab work when required.

Minimum Requirements
• College degree in electron spectroscopy
• Minimum 1-2 years of industrial experience, and/or related laboratory experience
• Detail-oriented, team player
• Able to multi-task and able to optimize analytical processes
• Comfortable with occasional important, short-notice deadlines and changes in priority
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Self-motivated, patient and focused
• Willing to learn new skills/techniques/data management methods, and ready to succeed with new challenges
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, Windows XP and Macintosh

Responsibilities:
• Immediate responsibilities would be to run, maintain, and ensure timely calibration and analysis of samples with a Hitachi SU6600 SEM.
• Ensure that data are documented correctly in all logbooks, Filemaker Pro, Quickbase, and/or reports as requested.
• Use Quickbase and Filemaker Pro to manage sample identification and data logging
• Interface with those requesting data to ensure an understanding of the request, the priority of the request, and check the efficiency of the analytical requests
• Help expand and streamline the analytical laboratory operations
• Help write and edit operating procedures for the SEM
• Assist with general laboratory housekeeping as needed
• Maintain sample retention/archive activities
